The word lymph means clear water, or

clear spring water ...

The Lymph System supports and detoxifies the Immune System. If one might suggest, take a brief moment to look at this page, on lymph drainage therapy -- after we've have a situation for a long time and a lot of procedures, lymph drainage kindly and considerately helps to detox the Immune System, reduce inflammation, and even sooth the connective tissues

Lymphatic Drainage drains and supports the lymph, lymphatic nodes, and improves the performance of the immune system.

Lymphatic Draináge Therapy(LDT) and also Lymphatic Massage area both well documented methods of detoxifying and stimulating the lymph system to activate lymph and fluid flows throughout the entire Immune System. It also supports and replensishes the production of synovial fluid, naturally.  For what is synovial fluid mostly composed of but water, lymph?

It is the light touch massage most often recommended by Medical Doctors in Europe for pre and post operative conditions, and complimentary with Oncology. I have seen patients malnourished from radiation and chemotherapy regain joint flexibility, cell tissue nourishment and well being after one or two Lymphatic Sessions. It also reaches deeper into scar tissue than any other modality I've worked with.  It is not unusual to see rhematoid arthritis go into remission after a series of considerate, deeply gentle lymph sessions.

This is a vastly underestimated therapeutic approach in this country and aesthetic benefits are real but secondary.

For the well patient, Lymphatic Massage is a kind of oil change for the whole body. Anyone receiving regular bodywork or massage at the LA office or in South Florida will receive a Lymphatic Session to focus on clearing out toxic built up in the circulatory and immune system from physiological and emotional releases.

It is well documented to treat, relieve and reduce

  • head and lower back pain
  • scar tissues, includes burns
  • wrinkling
  • acne
  • cellulite
  • rheumatoid arthritis (synovial fluid)
  • residual pain of breast surgery and implants
  • toxicity at the cellular levels
  • lymphoma, after physician's recommendation
  • lymphedema, stage 1 to stage 2

And to restore general mobility, very quickly. In combination with CranioSacral Therapy it is extraordinary.

"You go with the Lymphatic flow"

Deeply Sedating…

Lymphatic Draináge Massage and Lymphatic Draináge Therapy focus on the Lymphatic system. This is a very gentle, sedating approach which boosts the immune system. It is wonderful for before or after any surgeries including cosmetic or chemotherapy. It's the style of bodywork most often recommended by Doctors and Oncologists in Europe.

We're just catching onto it now in this country. Find out for yourself.

Lymph Means Clear , Spring Water

For timeless ages, water has been an element associated with Life itself. Through Lymphatic Drainage Massage we come into contact with the fluid dimensions of our bodies. We are in the water now, and with awareness can gently blend with this dimension of our body and mind.

Lymph is composed more of water than of blood. It's actually kind of a plasma-like fluid. It seeps out of the veins and collects in the great spaces in between... kind of like rain water rivulets.

I have seen Lymphatic Drainage Massage do wonders for the delicate tissue sheaths of the Peripheral Nervous System, not to mention Lymphatics other spectacular results such as the gentle and effective reduction of fatigue, sleep disorders, scars and even adipose tissues.

It as yet appears the water which hydrates our bodies is given about as much thought and consideration as the CranioSacral System. In other words, it's benefit unknown and so naturally ignored.

The following three illustrations of the Lymphatic System are by
Bruno Chickly, M.D. of The Upledger Institute from his text
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy 1

"Secondary Circulatory System"

I have heard time and again: "My Doctor just says it has something to do with the circulation". And this goes right along with: "My Doctor looks at me funny if I ask him about the CranioSacral System, so I don't ask him anymore".

In all fairness, one reason why the Lymphatic System is given hardly any time in our medical schools, as the story comes down to me, is because it only showed up as a subject of medical research in the 17th Century. This is the nice way of saying that the lymph system was first dissected in the 17th Century.

This is because the Lymphatic System is so light, so delicate, and well, watery... that it wasn't detected in the earlier dissections of cadavers.

(It's odd that someone moderately trained in Lymphatics could well know more about this system than most Doctors.-JN)

So when we are working with the flows of this "secondary circulatory system" we are meeting the water element of the body. The word, Lymph means, "clear spring water." And in fact, your local, Certified Massage Therapist is likely to know more about the Lymph and Lymph System and its treatment than your M.D. This is because the Lymph System only received cadaver dissection in the Seventeenth Century and has not yet made it's way into our Medical Schools. Any honest M.D. will agree with this, if you have the courage to ask.

Arthritis

There are different kinds of Arthritis, and any kind of arthritis can be alarming.  However, the sense of alarm itself can add to the inflammation involved in any arthritic condition.  Allow me to share an anecdote with you.

"Born to be Wild"

One of my Uncles had the first Harley Davidson in Palm Beach County.  He was known as "Wild Bill."  He would cruise past Good Samaritan Hospital on Flagler Drive on his early Harley, stand up on the seat, and wave to the nurses and get dates.  Later in life, long after his Wild days were done, he suffered terribly from Rheumatoid Arthritis.  I never had the privlege to meet the man. Then.  Decades later, I found myself with a new Harley Davidson.  I won it at an auction for St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Palm Beach. I didn't have the slightest idea of what to do with it, having never been on a motorcycle before, and had to learn from the beginning  by taking classes at the DMV.  I gradually grew more confident with the 1200 Sportster.  Later, I found that if I was not taking it out regularly, I would begin to develop a painful arthritic condition in the hands.  At first, I was alarmed, but then I realized I could get myself calm and then apply some simple light touch, Lymph Drainage Therapy to my fingers and hands.  The lymph fluid would warm, flow, and re-integrate, and the pain would go away.  We err when we rub our hands in pain with hard massage or tough-love rubbing. A very light touch was all that was needed, I found.  I can count the number of times it reoccurred on the fingers of one hand.  Gradually, I learned to handle the handle bars gently and what to do if it reoccurred!  First not to freak out.  And without aspirin! If I was calm, and acted as if I was in a good mood with a fine, frothy feeling, all systems were on go.  Nothing like a good mood to chase the scarey places away!

     (Yes, it's gone.-JN)

The first thing to look at is the diagnosis itself. What is the feeling in your body from just the diagnosis?  From any diagnosis for that matter?  Of course, Arthritis is painful, but often the cure can be worse than the original complaint!  What is it to find a calm place within? Often, I will suggest that the person suffering from the condition (or from the diagnosis?) find an area where he or she is not hurting. What is it to find one place in the body that is not in pain, acute or chronic?  It could be an earlobe or the upper lip -- anywhere.  It's there, if you can calmly separate yourself from the diagnosis and the suggested or actual treatments.  Find it.  Go there.  Discover what it is to be safe.  Just there.

Here is a very nice, way cool, page on Healthmad that describes different kinds of arthritis in a calm and gentle way. Click on this link, below.

"Different Kinds of Arthritis"

This said, Rheumatoid Arthritis can be relieved and treated with calming Lymph Drainage Therapy, and when Craniosacral Therapy and other modalities are enlisted (CraniOcean) you will find that you are again in your own good hands.  Osteo can be a challenge, but look, any good thing takes a little time and patience.  Consider this also, if you would be so kind, for how long did it take for the muscles to contract and become tense? How many months or years?  It took time for the muscles to do this, and so please give it some time to release out of the tension and chronic or acute pain. All is well.

I hope these few words posted here on CraniOcean.Calm will inspire and encourage you to read on and to learn more.  Even better than this, to find out for yourself by enlisting light touch therapies such as Lymph Drainage in your treatment protocol.

Lymphedema

Basically, "Lyphedema" is a painful and often debilitating swelling of an extremity.  It occurs with a steady build up of lymph fluid in the arms or legs, hence the need for, "lymph drainage."  For example, swelling under the arms at the "axillary" lymph nodes can radiate pain at the sides of the breast tissue, in a man or woman.  Lymphedema, or this swelling, can also occur as a possible reaction to breast implant surgeries.  It is poorly understood and often misdiagnosed as an infection or as gout, dermatitis, and so on.

There are three general stages to Lymphedema:

1) The mildest stage.  This is a swelling created by a build up of lymph fluid

and can be relieved and treated by Lymph Drainage Therapy, or other fine manual lymphatic approaches, also, simple elevation of the area that has swelled up, if no one else is at hand! Because the area can be somewhat pitted and painful to move or touch, it is often misdiagnosed, above.

2) The next stage.  Here, the swelling doesn't go down after elevation.  This is when you can be glad you found this page!  The tissue can become a bit harder to the touch yet still painful.  This can last for months.  Lymph Drainage Therapy is the first line of defense here, after the Immune system but before medications, and this most often recommended by doctors in Europe.  Stage 1 and Stage 2 form the bulk of the workload for the erstwhile Lymph Drainage practitioner.

3) The last stage.  This is much more serious. Here is where you want to pray to meet someone who has made Lymph Drainage Therapy, or other fine lymphatic approaches, their Life's work and Life's occupation.  This is when even the finest Lymph practitioner starts to look hard for these great souls, as referrals, to work along with and to complement the care given by the patient/client's primary care physician.  The delicate tissue is now weeping, or has become hard to the touch and unresponsive.  Constant wraps might be required.  Beyond this, untreated, even elephantiasis can develop and reconstructive surgery enlisted.  Very close communication is required by all involved.  But there is hope!  There are other areas of the body, for example, that are soft, healthy, filled with nurturing lymph fluid and harmony...and if needed, finally, the surgery is expert!

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of "cure" applies as well here.

Lymphatics and Integrated-Treatment-Modalities

Where Massage focuses on the muscles and circulatory system, and CranioSacral on the newly discovered Craniosacral System, Lymph Draináge focuses on the Lymphatic System, or, the fluid element of the immune system. "Lymph" Means clear, spring water. This potentially mind altering massage uses a very light touch and strengthens the immune system.

I've seen Lymphatics loosen hard to reach joints and innervate the electrical systems of the body where Visceral and Cranial could hardly touch, and that is saying a lot. I've also seen it do wonders for old scar tissue, and I'm still checking out it's lasting effectiveness for cellulite which I've seen it drain in progressive stages and naturally.

What is lost in any of these approaches but a few relaxing hours on a massage table?  Think about it for awhile.  Where else in the star system can you get a nurturing massage or learn to play golf?

It is also capable of releasing spastic reactions from the lymphatic and muscular systems and proven effective in relieving and treating a range of diorders from Menstrual Cramps to Migraines to Multiple Sclerosis(MS). The combination of Lymph work with CranioSacral and with Visceral Manipulation is a winning one for such disorders.

The Lymphatic System and Lymph Nodes

The Lymphatic System supports the bulk of the Immune System and includes the Lymph Nodes, which are pearl like purification centers for the body.

The Lymph Nodes collect along various areas of the body like pearl necklaces or clusters of delicate grapes. They are around the neck, under the arms, around the legs and pelvic areas with the bulk of them delicately winding through the abdomen and trunk.

As the Lymph that has been clogged or trapped floods the system feelings of calm described as "sedating" flood the brain and body.

One client, C.D, said that she didn't feel much after her first Lymphatic Therapy session, but after her second session said her "joints, bones felt like aluminum."

The Pleasure is Exquisite

The feeling of Lymphatic Drainage, like the feeling of CranioSacral, can be exquisite and it's completely natural! People say they "cop a buzz". The more Lymphatic sessions they experience the better they feel and this could be because they have a greater attunement and understanding of what this approach is about. (Hence one of the reasons for this site! - JN).

You guess that simple gravity can bear down on our bodies and on this delicate water system. Imagine the feeling as the body begins to feel gravity free and the joints mobile.  This, needless to say, also begins to open to the marvelous CraniOcean when performed in the ocean itself!

Consider that before or after surgery, for example, the Lymph can collect in pools down below and cause swelling. This swelling is one form of what is called, edema, and maybe a "bring down" but not for Lymphatics! Swelling and edemas are gently relieved through the use of this Therapy. Also, scar tissue and even cellulite!

The Lymph works its way upward through our bodies by subtle muscular contraction. One of the reasons the stolid guards at Buckingham Palace don't pass out from lack of circulation of blood and lymph to their brains is that the are trained to contract their leg muscles at intervals.

The Lymphatic Node

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy gently "milks" and "drains" the clusters of lymph nodes. The sedating and natural Therapy very gently follows the pathways of the Lymph fluid throughout the body.

The inside of a Lymph Node is clustered like a brillo pad and filled with the most powerful collection of White Blood Cells in the body, and a foreign invader's or pathogen's worst nightmare! "OOOPS!"

It is clinically demonstrated to reduce and in most cases dissolve scar tissue including burn tissue and also cellulite, safely and nonsurgically. There can also be an emotional component to scar tissuse release. (For example, I have repeatedly seen one small scar, say, at the forehead, restrict the movement of the entire body- J.N.)

Okay. Who knows about this stuff?

Differences Between Lymphatic Draináge Approaches

This brief section may possibly be of more interest to practioners, but all are welcome to read along!

Lymphatic Draináge Therapy(LDT), Lymphatic Massage, and Massage Therapy all combine and integrate beautifully with CranioSacral work.

CranioSacral, Massage, Chakra Balancing and Visceral Manipulation can integrate nicely with Lymphatics in a Dance. This is very unlike Manual Lymph Therapy, developed by Emil Vodder, where each stroke is timed and repetitive. In other words the Vodder approach follows a very specific repetitive pattern each time.  Both approaches can be complimentary, as a lovely dance!

The Vodder approach is around the physical moving and pumping of the Lymph. Lymphatic Draináge Therapy, developed by Bruno Chikley, moves the lymph but acknowledges an energetic component to the flow of Lymph.

I find that either method, sensitively applied with consideration for the Being, can rejuvenate and recharge the electrical system of the human body. It's kind of amazing. And fun too!

Lymphatics, like CST and Massage, incorporates wonderfully with high intentioned Flower Essences. Flower Essences are specifically designed to work with the electrical system of the human body. If we have time, we will go into Flower Essences later. You can check out our links and see Prelandra's research on this subject.

It's all about water and flow and movement and a much welcomed rest for the entire Immune System!

A Lymphatic Draináge Session

The typical lymphatic session can be performed with the client partially clothed but the classic approach, as with massage therapy, is of course, with scant draping of sheets and with no clothes on. This is especially true for those with painful implants from cosmetic surgery.

Turn Cellulite into....

Let's revist Lymph Drainage Therapy(LDT) shall we?

If you will permit me, now that also we have some sense of Lymph Drainage Therapy(LDT) I'd like to mention in that Lymph Drainage can melt and dissolve away stubborn cellulite, and painlessly.  I know this is spectacular, and only one small aspect of a very wide and exciting field available now for the 21st Century.

This is in the spirit of one example....

"My Lymphatic Draináge Session was the Rolls Royce of Bodywork. I felt more relaxed, at peace, and connected afterwards than at any other time I can remember in over a decade of healing work and spiritual practice."

Celluite (weird word, isn't it?)

Cellulite is first of all, a weird word, isn't it?  It sounds like "formica", or "fluorescent", or "irradiate", something weird, or even radioactive.  However, cellulite is just a normal adaptation to a build up of the female hormone, estrogen.  It occurs in women, not in men, of course, and the clumps of cellulite are clusters of fibers mixed with fluid. What kind of fluid? Lymph fluid!

Some overweight women have it, some underweight women have it, some older women have it, some younger women have it.  Again,  it's just a normal adaptation, it doesn't mean you're a bad person or anything like that....

Starving oneself, for example, is not a "cure" for Cellulite. Adipose tissue, "fat" is only one component of Cellulite.  Starvation "cures" can even increase the risk of a rise in estrogen.

On the other hand, cellulite can on some occasions exacerbate into "Cellulitis" (another weird word) is an infection with inflammation and extremely, extremely painful and which requires the prompt assistance of a physician, before Lymph Drainage Therapy(LDT) can be applied.  If you have cellulitis, you would know it.

In point of fact, never seek Lymphatic Drainage work of any kind, of any school, if you are suffering from infection.  Why?  Lymph is water.  Hello?  The infection can rapidly spread throughout the body.

(Later, we may possibly discuss the benefits--and cautions--of Lymph Drainage in concert with Radiation or Chemo. -J.N.)

"Surgery?"  "Cellulite Machines?"

The good news is that cellulite need not be a "permanent" condition, and now with very gentle Lymph Drainage Therapy(LDT), it certainly does not require surgery or liposuction--which can actually hurt the chances of its melting and going away, or being "drained" away.  Why? Surgery, liposuction, or machines can interfere with the normal, God Given pathways of the lymph fluid to drain.

...Think of obstructing a natural waterway, or even the path of a man made irrigation canal...

What's more, the machines sold by the cartload on the internet--or anywhere else--just won't do the job.  (You can feel very lucky that you've arrived at this site.  I certainly would! --J.N.) The machines are mechanical and non-specific to you.  They can even do damage to the fibers holding the cellulite in place, and make it harder to remove.  And they are nothing like a pair of caring human hands which can zero in on the stubborn cellulite like a laser beam.

Feel free to check out all the cellulite-removal machines you like, but we suggest to stay away from all gimmicks and go to the real thing--a sensitive, attuned practitioner trained to gently relieve and treat the cellulite condition.

Be a friend to someone who has it...?

If you know of anyone who is challenged by cellulite, and would like to extend a helping hand, or hand of friendship, please send them to this website or to iahp.com to find a Lymph Drainage Therapist in their area.

Although trained in the Cellulite Liberation technique developed by Dr. Bruno Chikly, I myself don't care to do it much.  It's too easy to do, too easy to remove cellulite, and although lucrative, can get rather boring for this practitioner.

(Of course, never boring for the person who has it!)

This is included on CraniOcean.com for your information.  You can play a much greater role in your own health and healing.

Lymph Drainage Therapy(LDT) is only one small adjunct of all that CraniOcean contributes to others--just not the "main event."  (Again, please check the links here to find a good practitioner you can work with--in your local area.)

The Cellulite Treatment Sessions

Like all good things, the removal of Cellulite overall takes some time.  It's not practical to remove it all in one session, for there is usually quite a lot of it there, and it can simply overload the human biological system.  And so run, don't walk, if anyone offers to remove it ALL in one session only!  Why?  They clearly don't know what they are doing.

The flows of sessions would go something like this, in reality.  Dr. Chikly suggests:

  • The first week may involve 2 to 3 sessions, with much less than 50 minutes spent to work on the Cellulite itself.
  • The second to fifth week may involve 1 to 2 sessions, with an even shorter time spent on the Cellulite itself.
  • Keep in mind that we are treating not just a part of the body, but the part AND the whole.  The build up of fluid inside the Cellulite clusters can gradually be drained to other parts of the body, and as a whole.  This takes time--if it's to work.
  • Voila!

During sessions, it's best to avoid any fried foods or heavy desserts. Maintain a simple, balanced diet which includes fruits, vegetables, nuts.  Also, make sure to drink lots of water!

How Long Can Results Last?

Estrogen can continue to build-up in woman throughout life.

But the removal of cellulite can be "permanent" and/or may last up to 2 years or more.  If more sessions are required after some time is past, the Cellulite removal will  go much quicker.  Why?  Through the sessions, the lymph has now found its proper passages and pathways through the body, like rivers to the ocean.

Done properly, with attunement to you as a person, as A LIVING BEING, the treatment to melt away Cellulite is painless--and actually, feels very good and relaxing.  If you hire someone to do this, and you feel a lot of pain, every session, then find another practitioner. This is not painful to receive.  One might experience some feelings of "good pain" and "good relief", as in Ahhhhhhh...!

What do you have to lose?

It will take several sessions and some cash money (Insurance in the United States has no vision!) but the work is very gentle.  Again, what would be lost but a few relaxing hours on a massage table? The results last up to two years, often more. If you need to be treated again, it will go away a lot faster and be a lot easier.

As you do these nurturing sessions, you may also learn how you can treat yourself, by yourself, if you are interested and care to take the time.

And also...if you are very nice to your good hearted practitioner!

     And now you know!

Thanks for your visit to CraniOcean.Calm
